About Me

Michael Crowdes, MA, LPCC-S

I am a licensed therapist in Westlake, Ohio, committed to helping people overcome obstacles that have kept them from feeling happy, hopeful, and more fully themselves. I work with clients navigating personal and professional life transitions, relationship challenges, anxiety, grief, ADHD, and questions of meaning, purpose, and self-understanding. I believe everyone has the capacity to heal and grow, and it is a privilege to be part of that process.

Issues I commonly help clients with include:

  • ADHD assessment and treatment

  • Stress and anxiety, including specific phobias

  • Grief, loss, death, and dying

  • Life transitions, including marriage, divorce, career change, and retirement

  • Relationship concerns in personal and professional life

My counseling style

Finding the right therapist is an important part of beginning counseling. In individual therapy, I often draw from schema theory, CBT, and psychodynamic approaches. This means we may look at how past experiences, especially those that feel unresolved or unprocessed, continue to affect your present-day life. These influences are not always obvious, but they can show up as anxiety, phobias, relationship difficulties, or other patterns that feel hard to change.

In therapy, we will work together to better understand these patterns, address underlying issues, and develop practical coping skills that support meaningful change.

I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, or EMDR. While EMDR and traditional therapy can each be helpful on their own, I often find they work especially well together.

Before becoming a counselor, I had a rewarding 25-year corporate career. I understand how busy life can be and how important it is to make therapy useful and focused. From the first session, we will work together to set clear goals, track your progress, and make sure therapy is addressing what matters most to you. I believe therapy should be collaborative, practical, and responsive to your needs.

Finding a therapist can be stressful, especially if it is your first time, which is why we are happy to talk with potential clients before scheduling an initial session. Even if you do not have specific questions, sometimes it helps just to get a sense of whether we seem like a good fit.
